Summer Stay-cations Versus Family Travel #Kindermom

The first week of summer vacation has been filled with lots of splash time for my girl,
and fruity drinks with a book for me.

I am a woman of contradictions. I love the idea of seeing new places and exploring the world, but hate flying, driving, being on a train, or any other method of travel. Since we don't have a teleporter in my closet, I have to grin and bear plane trips to see my family in Newfoundland.  I do not travel gracefully and used to be highly medicated to get on a plane for the 3 hour flight, but now try to be clear headed while travelling with my daughter. Keeping her busy and happy helps distract me from the anxiety of being 30,000 feet in the air.  I am learning to love travelling now as I see it through the eyes of my girl.

When we aren't travelling, I love to set up our deck as a comfy place to soak up the sun, or bask in the shade of my over-sized umbrella.  I'm lucky that my schedule has shifted to have my work day end at 12:30 or 3:30 most days so can spend lots of time outside with my family.  Being in a home for the first time since in 20 years has made a huge difference in my desire to be a home body and prefer to host friends and family at our place.

Don't throw away your plastic inserts, find a creative way to re- use them.
Kinder Surprise Eggs are a great treat to take on the road, but please don't smuggle these into countries in which they are prohibited!  Once the chocolate egg is eaten, and the toy played with, I save the plastic egg insert and re-use it for:
  • a loose change holder in the van
  • float them in my daughter's water table
  • vitamin holder in my purse
  • put rocks or dried beans inside to make music shakers
Can you think of other fun ways to use your plastic eggies?
