Halloween Fun In Your Kitchen: Pasta ''Bones'' and Goop {Preschool Activities}

My School-aged kids wanted to make "bones" to use on their spooky classroom mosaic.  I would have used spaghetti noddles as well if we had it.  I substituted hand sanitizer instead of vinegar for my school age kids (6 years +) because it drys the pasta in minutes.  I knew there little chance of them ingesting the noodles.

Coloured Pasta "Bones" {Ages 2.5 - 4 years)

  • 2 cups of dry pasta divided into 2 containers
  • 1 teaspoon of food colouring per bowl
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar per bowl
Stir it well, and let air dry 30 minutes. Stir a couple more times while waiting to make sure all the liquid is dry for easy handling. The recipe can be doubled or tripled, but drying time will increase if you leave it in bigger batches. Thread bigger noodles onto plastic lacing, use noodles with blue and paper to make a mosaic, add to cornstarch goop to make "bones" for a sensory experience.

Cornstarch Goop:
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 package of any instant gelatin powder
Stir it up, and explore the neat texture. Dispose immediately after play. I recommend letting it dry in the bowl overnight and then it can be tossed very easily.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Measurement
  • Fine motor skills
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Sensory exploration
